Stay up-to-date with the Los Barriles fishing report for August 13, 2023. Our expert analysis provides insights into our fishing opportunities. Read on to discover the prime catches and optimal fishing strategies.

CONDITIONS

Water temperatures are steady at a comfortable range of 86-87 degrees. The waters are crystal clear and tranquil, occasionally accompanied by gentle winds during the afternoon. The air conditions follow a consistent pattern of clear mornings, transitioning into partly cloudy afternoons. Expect temperatures to peak in the low 90s.

BAIT

Ballyhoo mostly with some chunk squid available for purchase. Some anglers were able to make live bait out a mile out.

ROOSTERS

Abundant Roosterfish in the 5-20 pound range have been spotted in the vicinity. The area near the Costa Palmas Marina entrance has seen numerous releases of these energetic fighters, offering a rewarding angling experience.

DORADO

The fishing scene has been marked by an impressive Dorado bite situated within 10 miles of the hotel. Anglers have experienced outstanding success with a range of sizes, from 5 to 15 pounds, including some robust bulls weighing up to 47 pounds. These catches have mainly occurred within a short distance of 3-4 miles south of Rancho Leonero. Successful anglers have primarily utilized trolled Ballyhoo bait to secure their catch limits.

MARLIN

The area off Frailes has proven to be a hotspot for billfish activity. The waters are teeming with a mix of Striped Marlin, along with impressive numbers of Blue and Black Marlin. Anglers targeting these species have achieved success using both trolled Ballyhoo bait and darker-colored lures.

YELLOWFIN

Boats venturing south of Frailles to the White Cliffs area have been reeling in substantial Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 20 and 50 pounds. Those opting for inshore fishing, within a mile of the beach, have found success using a variety of techniques such as Squid, cut bait, and flat falls. Most boats have enjoyed multiple successful catches.

WAHOO

This week’s fishing excursions have yielded a noteworthy number of Wahoo catches, including some sizeable individuals reaching up to 90 pounds. The preferred lures for Wahoo fishing have been Rapalas and Marauders. The productive area around the White Cliffs has been particularly favorable for these catches.

In conclusion, this week has provided anglers with exceptional opportunities and rewarding catches. Stay informed and make the most of your fishing adventures with these insights.

CONDITIONS

It’s really starting to warm up here in the East Cape. The air temp is right around 90° and the water is holding around 85°. The water color is still clear & blue.

BAIT

Ballyhoo and sardinas were available in front of Palmas de Cortez Hotel.

ROOSTERS

The rooster bite is going full speed right now. If a quality rooster is on your bucket list, now is the time to book a trip.

DORADO

The dorado bite is improving but still not in like in years past. However, the quality is the best I have seen in many years. That is probably due to the lack of pressure last year.

MARLIN

The marlin bite is still the best bite in town right now. 2 to 4 fish per day is normal. The billfish are stacking up 2-6 miles in the banks. Most fish coming on ballyhoo.

TUNA

The tuna bite continues to be fantastic. We are having good success 35-45 miles out, fishing under porpoise. Fish range from 12-30lbs. Almost every angler targeting tuna is returning with limits.

WAHOO

Not too many wahoo caught last week but, a friend did shoot 2 yesterday. He said “they are here”. He went on to tell me that he saw a lot of fish. So we know there are here, just nobody fishing for them due to the wide open tuna and marlin bite.

Overall the fishing has been off the charts. That’s a wrap on your Los Barriles Fishing Report. I feel like the reports all almost all the same. But it is, what it is. The weather is great and the fishing is even better.

Los Barriles fishing report is brought to you by Costa Del Mar Sunglasses. #seewhatsoutthere

CONDITIONS

Great weather again last week with the exception of one day of wind. The air temp is right around 90° and the water is holding around 85°. The water color is still clear & blue.

BAIT

Ballyhoo and sardinas were available in front of Palmas de Cortez Hotel.

ROOSTERS

To be perfectly honest, we only fished for roosters one day and didn’t have a lot of success. But, thats fishing as they say. More than likely it was due to the big winds we experienced the day before. Most anglers are choosing to fish the wide open tuna and marlin bite.

DORADO

The dorado have also not shown in huge numbers yet. Still only a few fish being caught every day. However, there were a couple of big bulls taken last week. Hoochies and ballyhoo are the ticket!

MARLIN

The marlin bite is still the best bite in town right now. 2 to 4 fish per day is normal. The billfish are stacking up 2-6 miles in the banks. Most fish coming on ballyhoo.

TUNA

The tuna bite remaned hot again last week. We are having good success 30-40 miles out, fishing under porpoise. Fish range from 12-30lbs. Almost every angler targeting tuna is returning with limits.

WAHOO

Not too many wahoo caught last week. My guess is that it’s due to the tuna bite going wide open and not many people targeting them. However, they are here.

Overall the fishing has been off the charts. That’s a wrap on your Los Barriles Fishing Report. I feel like the reports all almost all the same. But it is, what it is. The weather is great and the fishing is even better.

BAIT

Ballyhoo, Sardina and Cabilito were available in front of Palmas de Cortez Hotel.

DORADO

The dorado have also not shown in huge numbers yet. Still only a few fish being caught every day. However, there were a couple of big bulls taken last week.

MARLIN

The marlin bite is the best bite in town right now. 2 to 4 fish per day is normal.

CONDITIONS

Great weather again last week. The air temp ranges from the low 80’s to high 80s and the water is 75-76° and the water color is clear and blue.

BAIT

Ballyhoo, Sardina and Cabilito were available in front of Palmas de Cortez Hotel.

ROOSTERS

We had good rooster fishing last week. Some nicer models showing up in the mix. The water is now at 76° and warming every day. As a result we should see the rooster bite continue to improve.

DORADO

The dorado have also not shown in huge numbers yet. Still only a few fish being caught every day. However, there were a couple of big bulls taken last week.

MARLIN

The marlin bite is the best bite in town right now. 1 to 3 fish per day is normal.

TUNA

The reason for the delay in last weeks fish report is all the tunas fault. I heard there were some tuna caught on Sunday. So I wanted to see if Monday would be the same or possibly better. Well, it was very good tuna fishing for the 4 or 5 boats that ventured 30miles off the beach. All boats limited out on tuna from 10 to 30lbs.

The African pompano bite stayed strong last week. Fish up to 20lbs.

WAHOO

A couple more wahoo were caught this week. Hopefully more will arrive with the sea warming.

Los Barriles fishing report is brought to you by Costa Del Mar Sunglasses. #seewhatsoutthere

CONDITIONS

The weather has been absolutely perfect again this week in the East Cape. I know I sound like a broken record but, it’s the truth. The air temp is in the low 80’s° and the water is 75-76°. The water color is clear and blue.

BAIT

Ballyhoo are available in front of Palmas de Cortez Hotel.

ROOSTERS

Pretty much the same as last week. More and more are continuing to arrive. The water is now at 76° and warming every day. As a result we should see the rooster bite improve.

DORADO

The dorado have also not shown in huge numbers yet. Still only a few fish being caught every day.

MARLIN

The marlin bite is the best bite in town right now. 1 to 3 fish per day is normal.

TUNA

The tuna are starting to move up the line. Fish have been caught on the Gordo Bank and a bit more North. Hopefully they will show in numbers soon. One boat did land 10 last week in a single day about 49 miles off the beach. In the tuna’s absence, the African pompano bite stayed strong last week. Fish up to 20lbs. We also had some yellowtail in the mix again this week.

WAHOO

A couple more wahoo were caught this week. Hopefully more will arrive with the sea warming.
