CONDITIONS
The weather has been absolutely perfect again this week in the East Cape. The air temp is right around 80° and the water is 73°-75°. The water color is clear and blue.
BAIT
We finally have quality sardinas available a 100yds south of the the hotel. I mean nice 3 to 4″ sardinas. I haven’t seen them this big in the 3 years I’ve lived here. Ballyhoo are also available in front of Palmas de Cortez Hotel.
ROOSTERS
Pretty much the same as last week. More and more are continuing to arrive. The water is now at 75° and warming every day. As a result we should see the rooster bite improve.
DORADO
The dorado have also not shown in huge numbers yet. A few fish being caught every day.
MARLIN
Several nice strippers were landed this week. So the marlin bite is definitely on.
TUNA
It appears that I spoke too soon. The tuna showed up for a cameo down to the south. However, they vanished within two days. Let’s hope they stick around this week. In the tuna’s absence, the African pompano bite went wide open last week. Fish up to 20lbs. We also had some yellowtail in the mix this week.
WAHOO
A few wahoo were caught this week. That’s a great sign being so early in the year.
That’s a wrap on your Los Barriles Fishing Report
