Fish Report October 1-12th

Here is the fish & bait report for October 1-12th

Wahoo

BAIT – The bait supply is not good right now. Most importantly the frozen squid has really saved our bacon as of late, thanks to Palmas de Cortez and East Cape Tackle. There are some big caballito available along with some ballyhoo, but the sardina supply is very weak. It takes about an hour and a half or more run up to where they are available. I’ve seen as many as 13 boats waiting for the guys throwing nets to bring them sardinas. There are a few mackerel around as well.

WATER – The water temps are from 86-89 and the water color is a deep blue and super clean.

TUNA – The tuna bite is strong right now. Fish are between 10-20 with an occasional 40 or 50lb fish mixed in.

DORADO – A good amount of dorado are still around and willing to eat the frozen squid.

ROOSTER – The rooster bite has slowed but they are still here as well.

BILL FISH – The bill fish bite has been well, who knows. The reason being, just not many fisherman targeting the bill fish right now. However, there was a sailfish caught and released yesterday 10/11.

WAHOO – The wahoo are still around as well and willing to bite anything pink.

Fish Report Aug 27 – Sept 2

Here is your fish report for August 27  through Sept 2

BAIT – The bait supply over the last week has been good up North at El Cardonal.  3-4″ sardina were available. There was also mini mackerel available along with frozen squid, and caballito here in Los Barriles.

WATER – The water temps are from 82-85. Lets all hope they stay right there. The water color is perfect and super clean.

TUNA – The tuna bite was really good and close. There’s a bite up North and a spot of fish South near La Capilla.

DORADO – The dorado bite was good again this week (see photo above). Laurin and I went out for a few hours on Sunday and landed our biggest Dorado of the year. We didn’t weigh it but guessing its between 45-55lbs. That bull was taken on the new Cazaoffshore Mito lure.

ROOSTER – The rooster bite has slowed, mostly due to not many fisherman targeting them. The bigger fish have moved off the beach into 15-30′ of water.

BILL FISH – The bill fish bite has been good when they have been targeted. There was a Spearfish taken last week as well. Ya just never know whats going to happen next in the Sea of Cortez.

WAHOO – The wahoo bite was really good this week. The fish are mostly between 18-30lbs.

Fish Report Aug 6th – 12th

Fish Report August 6th – 12th

Fish Report

BAIT – The bait supply this week was ok.  We are still heading south to get bait in front of the La Ribera Marina. Sardina, ballyhoo, and caballito are all available. The sardina are still pretty small. You’ll need a size 2 or 1 Owner hook.

WATER – The water is cleaning up and the temps are right around the low 80’s due to the tropical storm we had last week.  We expect the water to warm rapidly this week.

TUNA – The tuna bite was ok this week. Fish are being caught south in the Ricon area.  The size is all over the board from 15lbs to 80+. You just never know.  The bigger tuna are hitting on fly lined cabillito.

DORADO – The dorado bite was good again this week. Seems that most boats are getting fish every day out although the size has not been there.

ROOSTER – The rooster bite remains good. The bigger fish have moved off the beach into 15-30′ of water.

BILL FISH – The bill fish bite also slowed this week with the storm. There were a few caught yesterday, but not a lot of boats targeting the bill fish lately. There was a double blue marlin hookup and release this past week. Look for the bill fish to be on the chew this week.

WAHOO – The wahoo bite was also slowed some due to the storm. Again, look for the wahoo bite to pick up this week.
