Pictured above on the left is Los Barriles Sportfishing angler Paul Black with a monster yellowtail caught in early March. On the right, Matt Clifton’s boat “El Regalo” found the tuna.

Welcome to the 2019 fishing season.

I’m going to do my best to put out a fishing report every week on Sunday/Monday and I’m not going to sugar coat it. It will be first hand info mixed with what I’m hearing around the boat yard and what I see on the Palmas de Cortez dock. The East Cape weather is in transition from winter to summer. Winds out of the North are becoming less frequent and air temps are rising. Be sure to check back for next weeks fishing report.

WATER – Our water temps are right around 70-72 this week.

BAIT – The pangueros have not started to work for sardina’s yet. Currently we have live ballyhoo and mackerel available.

TUNA – The tuna are making a showing this week off the Imen bank under and under porpoise about 20mi off La Ribera.

DORADO – We have had dorado around all winter. They really never left.

ROOSTERS – Similar to the dodo’s there are some smaller grade roosters in the mix as well down by the marina. A friend let me know that he caught and released the first “good one” from the beach with a fly rod.

BILL FISH – The bill fish bite has been mostly out of San Jose and Cabo.

WAHOO – No reports of wahoo this week but there were some caught a few weeks ago.

YELLOWTAIL – The yellowtail bite is one of chance for local anglers fishing live bait on the bottom. There are some better numbers coming in from Punta Norte.

SIERRA – Sierra’s are still around and we found some willing to bite off Punta Pescadero last week.
